The Food Safety and Drug Administration on Thursday prohibited operations of a hotel in Saidapet for failure to maintain hygiene in its kitchen.
As many as eight samples including rotten mutton and chicken were seized from Namma Chettinadu hotel on Thursday. The samples have been sent to King Institute of Preventive Medicine for testing. “We will issue improvement notice to the hotel. The hotel will be permitted to operate only after rectifying the defects,” said S. Lakshmi Narayanan, designated officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Chennai District.
The action on Monday followed an email sent on October 28 to dofssache@gmail.com by Shyamsundar, a resident of Tambaram. Mr. Shyamsundar had suffered food poisoning, vomiting and diarrhoea after having meals at the hotel a few weeks ago.
“They had not washed the floor for the past eight months. The floor had blood stains. We seized two rotten carcasses of goat and a large quantity of rotten chicken,” said an official of Food Safety Department.
Six samples of oil, rice, dal and sweets were also sent to King Institute. Customers affected by such food may send emails to the commissioner of food safety in the State at commrfssa@gmail.com.
