Stringent measures:Expired bottles of soft drinks seized by officials of the Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department in Salem on Tuesday.
Officials of the Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department seized 580 bottles of expired soft drinks from a distributor in Nilavarapatti and destroyed it on Tuesday.
The bottles with manufacturing date in August 2015 with four months validity was noticed by a customer, while the distributor was unloading the bottles from a vehicle to the shop.
He immediately alerted the District Designated Officer T. Anuradha, who asked the food safety inspector to seize the products.
Enquiries revealed that the products were manufactured in Bengaluru and the stockist in Dharmapuri distributes it to many districts.
Notice was served on the distributor and the products were destroyed.
Ms. Anuradha asked the consumers to be careful while purchasing products.
“Packages without information on manufacturing or expiry date should not be purchased. Consumers can inform the District Designated Officer at 9443520332,” she added.
On Monday, officials seized and destroyed 27 packs of expired pineapple milk drink from an Aavin booth functioning on the court premises.
