33 qtls unhygienic, unsafe ‘Go Milk’ seized from Best Price Store

JAMMU: While continuing its drive against food adulteration, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for the first time in the history seized over 33 quintals of double toned milk of Hyderabad-made brand ‘Go Milk’ which was declared ‘substandard, unhygienic, misbranded and unsafe for human consumption’ by the Referral Food Lab, Kolkata.
Briefing media on Thursday, JMC Commissioner Kiran Wattal said that the JMC team led by Health Officer, Dr Mohammad Saleem Khan conducted raid at Walmart’s Best Price Store near Toph Sherkhanian and lifted samples of ‘Go Brand’ double toned milk which was found substandard, unhygienic and misbranded by the Food Analyst, Jammu. Later, the samples were also sent to Referral Food Laboratory Kolkata which also declared the product as unsafe for human consumption, substandard and misbranded, he added.
The Municipal Commissioner mentioned that the JMC team recovered about 16 quintals of substandard milk from Best Price Shop and 17 quintals from the distributors M/s Parag Milk Food Pvt Ltd Digiana Jammu.
He mentioned that the samples lifted have been sent to Food Laboratory Jammu for analysis and further action under rule will be taken after receiving the report.
The Commissioner stated, “The food business operator has been directed to recall the product (Go Milk) from the market immediately as per the guidelines under Food Standard Safety Act (FSSA) 2006. Meanwhile, a request for prosecution sanction will be sent to the competent authority shortly and further action will be initiated against the defaulters as per the guidelines.”
The Municipal Commissioner asserted that the food business operators are also directed to stick to quality and standards, otherwise stringent action under FSSA shall be taken against the defaulters.
The Municipal Commissioner emphasized that the drive against the food adulteration will continue and no lapses will be tolerated in this direction.
The Commissioner also directed the health officer to vigorously check on ice cream Rehris, fast-food points especially those who are selling ‘Momos’ and soups so that only hygienic food will be served to the people of Jammu city.
Health Officer of JMC, Dr Mohammad Saleem Khan was also present in the press conference.
