Health Minister V. S. Sivakumar said seven firms that were providing substandard bottled drinking water had been closed and another one fined. The licence or registration of the Food Safety Department and BIS certificate are mandatory for selling bottled drinking water in the State. The provisions of Food Safety and Standards (Food Products and Food Additives) Regulation of 2011 are being enforced in the State. Seven squads had been set up for inspecting the quality of water, he said adding that the government had no control over price.
