FDA seizes expired snacks costing Rs 36,300

NAGPUR: The Food and Drug Administration food wing seized snacks costing Rs 36,300 of different manufacturers with expiry date in the market.
The material including chocolates, biscuits and chiwda were seized from the premises of Ritesh Imtani's ice candy manufacturing unit in Kamptee.
The material was seized under a planned raid conducted in the leadership of assistant food commissioner S E Pawar and food safety officer Amit Uplap. "All these snacks have labels with their best use date expired. FDA has destroyed the entire material and started the procedure for appropriate action against," said Pawar.
Shivaji Desai, joint commissioner (food) told TOI that since the owner was a manufacturer of ice candy, finding snacks that too with expired dates on his premises has raised eyebrows about his intentions. He could be involved in illegal sale of such materials.
