Ban on tobacco extended by 1 yr


Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Friday extended the ban on gutkha and pan masala across the state by another year.
Under the exercise of the powers conferred to the commissioner of food safety under section 30 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, a press communique stated that the state hereby prohibits the manufacture, storage, distribution, transportation and sale of gutkha / pan masala which contains tobacco and nicotine as ingredients and chewing tobacco products like chap tobacco, pure tobacco, khaini, kharra, scented tobacco, flavoured tobacco packed in pouches / sachets / containers etc., or by whatever name it is called in the entire state of Telangana for a period of one Year with effect from January 10, 2016.
No person shall himself or by any person on his behalf shall manufacture, store, distribute, transport or sell eatables which contain tobacco and nicotine as ingredients.
Contravention of the prohibition order is an offence and punishable with imprisonment/fine under the provision of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
