350 fall ill after consuming khichdi

In a shocking incident, over 350 residents from Pimpalgaon (Gadhe) in the tehsil were subjected to food poisoning after they had consumed the prasad of Sabudana (Sago) khichdi on Wednesday. The patients are being treated in various government and private hospitals in the tehsil.
A large number of devotees from Pimpalgaon and neighbouring villages had gathered to attend the week-long religious sermon of Akhand Harinam Saptah. In the wake of the day of Ekadashi, they were all served prasad of sabudana khichdi in the evening. After a while they began to suffer from nausea, vomiting and giddiness. The medical staff in the primary health centre of the village started treating some of the patients whereas a large number of other patients were shifted to the Sub-district hospital in the town at around 9 pm. 
The hospital administration started making arrangements for treatment on war footing. All the medical officers, nurses, compounders and other staff of the hospital were summoned and they started treating the patients immediately.
A large number of private doctors, social activists and political leaders from the town rushed to the hospital and started assisting the work of treating the patients. Lack of sufficient equipment was overcome as most of the medical shops in the town kept open throughout the night and all type of medicine and bottles of saline water were supplied constantly as the number of patients went on increasing. Many patients were made to sleep in the corridor on the floor as the number of cots was insufficient. Similarly at least 10 bottles of saline were seen hanging from a single stand. Many patients were also admitted to private hospitals in the town. Around 100 patients were carried to the SRTR Government Hospital at Ambajogai through 10 ambulances and some private vehicles. 
Dhananjay Munde the leader of opposition in the state legislative council rushed to the hospital and instructed the officials to provide quick service to the patients. Guardian minister Pankaja Munde also ordered the authorities for better treatment and made availability of the vehicles needed to transport the patients. Residents of the town also came forward and offered their vehicles for the purpose.Congress leader Prof T P Munde, Sub-divisional officer Savita Chaudher, tehsildar Atul Jatale, civic president Bajirao Dharmadhikari, Namdev Aghav, Chandulal Biyani, Jugalkishore Lohiya, Jivraj Dhakne, Vaijnath Solanke and other prominent leaders were present in the hospital.
