Thaneer, an organisation working for the cause of environment protection, has urged the Food Safety Department to prevent packaging hot food products in polythene bags.
In a representation to the Chief Minister, the organisation secretary K.C.Neelamegam also demanded effective steps to enforce the ban on plastics below the thickness of 40 microns.
Manufacturers of packaged water should also be forced to recollect the used bottles to destroy or recycle them. Steps to segregate plastic wastes should be streamlined.
