Sago unit sealed in Salem district

A private sago manufacturing unit at K.N. Pudur in Thevattipatti was sealed by the food wing officials here on Saturday for using banned chemicals.

A team led by T. Anuradha, District Designated Officer, Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department inspected the unit, and found that the chemicals were being used for bleaching.
Officials said that samples were taken from the unit and sent to laboratory. Also, 101 bags of sago that were kept in a room was sealed by the officials. This is the seventh sago unit to be sealed in the district for using banned chemicals.

  2. Since there are many units using the same chemicals why not effective enforcement to those is questionable.

    Since wet starch is unloaded in 2factories why no action against those factory who is unloading the same.

    Wet Starch buyers and wet starch storage by self in their custody could not manufacture Sago without chemical. Since after 24Hrs wet starch will become Industrial grade.
