Cops seize gutka hidden in high-end SUV


LCB team led by API Atul Aher and FDA officer Manek Jadhav seized the consignment valued at Rs.2.58 lakh 
Continuing its crackdown against illegal gutka trade, a Local Crime Branch (LCB) team led by API Atul Aher and Food Security Officer Manek Jadhav intercepted two vehicles including a Tata Sumo jeep and a high-end SUV near Hotel Sai Palace on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway and seized several gunny bags stashed with gutka sachets and scented tobacco of various brands, late on Tuesday night. The value of the seized consignment is estimated to Rs 2.58 lakh. Both the vehicles were headed from Vapi to Mumbai, the police said. Three people identified as Atmaram Keshav Bansode (36), Nisar Ahmed Shaikh (39) and Sachin Manohar Rane (30), have been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Food Safety and Standards Act. 
The accused have been remandedto police custody. “We are trying to find out the source and the destination of the banned consignment,” said Aher. Further investigations are on.
