Implementation of Drug, Food Control Laws reviewed

Jammu, June 13: Controller, Drug & Food Control Organization, Dr. Baldev Sharma today convened a meeting of Enforcement Officers of the Organization at Jammu to take stock of the status of implementation of Laws and Regulations related to Drug/Food Regulation and Tobacco Control. 
The Controller impressed upon the designated Authorities to take due cognizance of violations of the Laws and take necessary action against the violators. He directed the concerned to perform their duties with dedication and missionary zeal to safeguard the public interest. 
Dr. Baldev stressed the need for stepping up awareness campaign to educate the masses about the quality drugs and food products and the impact of sub-standard food articles on the health. He said the Department will start special awareness drive across the State to highlight the importance of quality drugs and food for the better health. He directed the concerned functionaries to step up their vigil on the outlets to ensure quality drugs and food to the consumers. He called for strict action against the culprits. 
The Controller directed the District Officers to involve all stakeholders to ensure quality drugs, food and food products to the consumers which is mandatory for a healthy society. All the stakeholders need to be briefed about the provisions of Law Governing their Trade and significance of applying the Legal Provisions in their Day today business. 
The Controller, who is also designated as Commissioner Food Safety Act, directed the Deputy Commissioners, Food Safety to undertake survey of food establishments along the National Highway in order to secure compliance with the mandated provisions of Hygienic conditions envisaged under the Food Safety Laws. 
All designated officers of Drugs and Food Safety from across the Jammu division were present in the meeting.
