State FDCA checks food quality in 50 hotels

Ahmedabad: Some 50 leading hotels across Gujarat were checked for food quality by Food and Drug Control Authority (FDCA) Gujarat on Friday. Star-rated hotels across Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot in addition to Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Gandhinagar were inspected by authorities of state FDCA.
HG Koshia, commissioner, FDCA, Gujarat, said, “The series of inspections were carried out to ensure that the quality of food is not compromised with. We have vowed to ensure food safety of citizens whether they consume it at a five-star hotel or at a stall on the street side. Samples of food as well as raw materials and ingredients were collected and have been sent to the laboratory for further testing.”
Koshia also spoke of a suspicious sample of baby corn found at a city hotel. “Our officials had found suspicious samples of baby corn at one of the hotels in Ahmedabad as it was not labelled. The hotel authorities however, agreed to destroy them,” he said.
When contacted, spokespersons of the hotel confirmed that the entire stock of 2kg of baby corn was destroyed.
