AFST raises concerns over recent FSSAI proposal

Food safety and Standards Authority of India, FSSAI, has proposed the amendments in qualification of Designated officer, the key post of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. According to the proposed amendment, a non technical and candidates other than science graduates can also apply for the post.
The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (AFST) has raised concerns over this proposal. AFST team feels that it will definitely harm the recruitment of Food science /Tech and technical graduate students at all India level, who are qualified technically in food science with chemistry as one of the subjects.
The team also feels that it will influence the implementation of science based Food Safety and Standards Act at all India level if the key post of the Act goes in hands of a non technical person.
AFST has requested everyone to oppose the amendments draft before it becomes a notification by FSSAI.
'The objections regarding amendments in qualification of Designated Officer to FSSAI can be sent on email rakesh.nayal@nic.in before 31.10.2017 for welfare of Food technology students and food science graduates at all India level. Kindly send one email on above email id saying you oppose this proposal and non science base graduate will be against the intent of FSSAI act and put other logical points'.
