Food tribunal to be fully functional by Dec 5: CS tells HC

JAIPUR: Chief secretary O P Meena, who was summoned by the Rajasthan High Court on Saturday for noncompliance of the court order regarding the infrastructure to be provided to the Rajasthan Food Safety Appellate Tribunal, assured the court that it would make the tribunal fully functional by the end of this year.
The HC had asked the chief secretary, principal secretary (Medical and health) and commissioner of food safety to be present in the court on Saturday over non-compliance of its orders.
The issue is related to the space to be provided to the tribunal to function and staff and other infrastructure. The court had earlier directed the chief secretary to personally visit the Swasth Bhawan where a room has been allotted to the tribunal and ensure that basic infrastructure are provided to the tribunal.
Chief Secretary assured the court that its orders would be fully complied by December 5. The court while exempting the personal appearance of chief secretary and principal secretary health directed the food safety commission to be present in the court on next hearing on December 7.
Associate professors' selection stayed: The HC while staying the issue of appointment letters to the post of associate professors in the MDS University , Ajmer, issu ed notices to the university vice-chancellor and principal secretary , higher Education.
The single bench of Justice KS Ahluwalia issued the notice on a petition by Manju Sharma alleging that the university is not following the rules and regulations regarding appointment. The petition said, the university is governed by the Rajasthan University Teachers and Officers Appointment Act 1984 and the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission.
But the university neither following the Act nor the guidelines of the UGC in the appointment of Associate professors nor had called for a written test of the candidate which the petitioner claimed to be illegal and arbitrary. It said the vice-chancellor had constituted a committee and it decided to conduct written test of the candidates while there is no such provision as per rules.
