FDA launches two apps for consumer benefit

PANAJI: The FDA on Monday launched two consumer apps related to food quality and prices of medicines. Food Safety Voice App allows the consumers to voice their concerns, know their rights and track food operators in a particular area. Whether it is packaged food or food served in an establishment, consumers are now empowered to know about the operators and get information on food safety. They can rate a food establishment.
The app for Android smartphone users has built-in functionalities to locate the consumer’s geographical location and they can forward any food-related issues witnessed along with the captured pictures.
Medicine Sahi Daam APP provides the consumer with the facility to check the prices of drugs as notified by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) vis-à-vis the prices charged by the chemist. Any instance of overcharge detected can be immediately reported to the FDA alongwith the copy of the cash memo for further action by the state regulatory authorities.
The above two apps can be downloaded on any smart phone and through it consumers can file their complaints or grievances relating to quality of prepared food or even pre-packaged food articles and medicines.
The apps were launched by the FDA during a consumer workshop attended by 51 representatives from various consumer clubs including GOACAN, representatives from the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and students from the Goa College of Home Science.
