Food safety: FSSAI unveils initiative for scientific cooperation

NEW DELHI, JULY 14: 
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has launched a new initiative called the Food Safety Knowledge Assimilation Network, which will be a framework for scientific co-operation for food safety and nutrition.

In an official statement, FSSAI said that the network will establish a framework for scientific co-operation by exchange of information and co-ordination of research activities in the country. The regulator has got about 90 research proposals from various scientific institutions for taking up R&D studies in the areas of food safety and nutrition.
At a workshop held in Delhi and attended by nearly 100 scientists, 44 proposals were discussed and 13 projects were identified which fell within the objective and responsibilities of FSSAI and will be getting an outlay of ₹5 crore.
