Squads to Keep Eye on Eateries

Special squads have been formed in the city to carry out inspections at restaurants and eateries in the city in view of the State Youth Festival, Food Safety Commissioner T V Anupama said on Sunday.
The squads have bee instructed to take stern action against eateries that prepare food in unclean surroundings and are using banned chemicals and artificial colours, she said.
Large numbers of students along with their parents and teachers will arrive in the city this week for the 59th State Youth Fest which begins on Tuesday. “They will have to depend on hotels, restaurants, bakeries and other eateries. Such establishments should follow all the safety norms,” the commissioner said.
The food safety wing has also published mobile phone numbers so that the public can alert it regarding violations. The food safety wing, which is going all out to prevent problems, has also directed hotels and restaurants to obtain the mandatory registration or licence for operating eateries in the state. The licence or registration should be displayed prominently.
Failure to do so can invite action including imprisonment upto six months and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
