Steps sought to check misuse of adhesives as narcotics

Reports that schoolchildren are using adhesive substances as narcotic inhalants are quite disturbing and the government should take immediate action against this trend, V. Sivankutty, MLA, has said.
The police had found that children mostly acquiredthis adhesives from shops near schools. The practice of sniffing adhesives was seen more among migrant labourers, he claimed in a statement here on Friday.
The police should conduct surprise raids on the camps of migrant labourers to investigate this further. School assemblies should be used to create awareness among children of the ill effects of glue-sniffing and Shadow Police should be deployed near schools to check out shops selling such substances, Mr. Sivankutty demanded.
He said that the Food Safety wing and the city Corporation too should urgently intervene to investigate reports of the widespread use of adhesives as narcotic inhalants.
MLA demands that Shadow Police be deployed near schools to check out shops selling such substances.
