‘Not enough staff to monitor food safety’


The State Health Department has expressed its inability to enforce the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 citing lack of adequate staff and machinery. “As this is a Central Act, we will write to the Centre requesting that the Health Department in Karnataka be relieved of this responsibility, Health Minister U.T. Khader has said.

  1. FSSAI has laid down guidelines for qualifications of FSO. Govt, has to recruit , train and enforce the Act in the interest of the consumers.Although it is a Central Act , enforcement is states responsibility
