The officials of the Food Safety Department raided two motels situated on the Chennai — Tiruchi National Highways and got them closed and sealed for serving unhygienic food at exorbitant prices on Saturday.
Designated Officer of the department V. Arumugham said that on the direction of Sub-Collector Prabhu Sankar a team of officials, including himself and Food Safety Officers C. Ravikumar, S. Kathiravan and Mohan raided the motels following a sheaf of complaints received from bus passengers.
One of the motels is located close to the Vikkirvandi toll gate and another at Sithani and these motels were serving food prepared in unhygienic conditions and selling the packed food in excess of the maximum retail prices.
