FSSAI Changes Date for Compliance of FSSAI Logo and License Number on the Label

FSSAI Changes Date for Compliance of FSSAI Logo and License Number on the Label
In a notification Order issued by the FSSAI on 16thDecember 2014, FSSAI has once again extended the date of compliance of FSSAI Logo and License number to 1st July 2015.
On 7th June 2013, FSSAI first took out a notification that said that the FSSAI Logo & license number of the brand owner shall be displayed on the label of a food package in the color that is in contrast to the background.
The height of the letters and the numerals of license number had to be as prescribed in sub-regulation 2.3.3 as per Food Safety and Standards (Packaging & Labelling) regulations, 2011.
On 31st October 2013 FSSAI had further extended the date of compliance on logo and license. FSSAI also clarified how exactly it wanted the FSSAI logo and License number to be displayed.
The FSSAI has laid emphasis on how logo and license number was to be in contrast colour to the background so that these are clearly visible.
Lic. No. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
FSSAI said that in case, the addresses of multiple units like manufacturer, packer, re-labeller, marketers were needed to be displayed on the food packet then the FSSAI logo and license number of the brand owner has to be displayed. The other multiple units will have the license number displayed along with their addresses.
“Lic. No. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX”
According to Food Safety & Standards (Packaging & Labelling) Regulations, 2011, all imported food products should carry FSSAI logo and license number and name and address of the importer on the label. The importer can either pre-print these on the label or have them on a sticker affixed on the food article, before custom clearance.
Regulation 2.6.1 of the FSS (Packaging and Labeling) Regulations 2011 has to be followed for the display of FSSAI license number and logo. The height of the letters and numerals of the license must be as prescribed in 2.3.3 of the Food Safety & Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011.
Finally FBOs must understand that the display of the FSSAI logo on the label of the food product is not a mark of certification but it just signifies that the FBO has a valid license under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
