Banned tobacco products worth Rs.6,000 were seized from a shop at Thittacherry locality in the district on Wednesday.
Food safety officials said that the Revenue Divisional Officer (Nagapattinam), Sivapriya had visited a shop for issuing licence to set up a cracker shop. She found banned tobacco products being sold in a nearby shop. On information, food safety officials rushed to the shop and destroyed the seized tobacco products.
