SMC’s drive against sub-standard food continues

Health Officer inspects several areas, imposes fine on erring traders

Srinagar, Dec 10: Health Officer SMC accompanied by Municipal Magistrate, and a team of officials of inspected the industrial area of Zainakote and food establishments at HMT, Qamarwari, Bemina and Batamaloo area on Saurday.
Food establishments selling substandard and misbranded items were fined on spot. Large quantities of rotten vegetables, milk, fruits and other eatables found unsatisfactory for human consumption were also destroyed on the spot. About Rs 3000 were collected as fine from the erring traders.
Samples of certain food items were also taken for analysis. Pertinent to mention that Health Officer SMC along with Municipal Magistrate have been carrying out sustained and regular market checks in different areas falling under Srinagar Municipal limits to ensure compliance of Food Safety Standards Act 2006 by food establishment owners and manufacturers.
